Senior Paralegal

Details: Security Clearance: OtherREQUIREDExcellent writing and oral communication skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office applications [i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc...) and WordPerfect Office Suite.Paralegal Certificate. An equivalent level of legal training may be substituted with approval of the COTR.At least two years of litigation paralegal experience; One year of experience in automated litigation.Thorough Knowledge of research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis Nexis.Hands on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including databases and presentation products;The requested paralegal should ideally have experience working with such electronic databases as Concordance and Sanctions for the organization and presentation of evidence.Relevant experience with both pre-trial and trial litigation support is expected.Sound working knowledge of the legal system, legal research procedures, sources of information and an understanding of financial systems including derivative and mortgage backed securities.Ability to obtain a security clearance.Must be a U.S. Citizen. DESCRIPTIONThis position is in support of the United States Attorneys Office in New Jersey located at located at 970 Broad Street, Newark NJ 07102.The Employee will be responsible for directly and independently supporting one to four Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) by providing a wide variety of technical paralegal services, particularly in financial fraud investigations and trials. The work requires a sound working knowledge of the legal system, legal research procedures, sources of information and an understanding of financial systems including derivative and mortgage backed securities. Note:    Travel may be necessary. Travel will be approved and reimbursed at the government per diem and mileage rates.The Employee will perform duties to include, but not limited to:Provide a variety of direct paralegal services to AUSA staff. Seek and locate sources of information, in aid of civil investigations and trials by contact or correspondence with other departments and/or agencies of federal, state and local government. Gather factual material independently; read, annotate, and summarize transcripts, files and other factual aspects of the case; obtain financial and statistical information, agency records, court records and other public records; analyze documents and draft factual memoranda.Perform specialized detailed legal research as necessary.Be responsible for organizing and processing huge quantities of data and discovery documents.Be responsible for preparing numerous exhibits for trial.Provide automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations. Utilize various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters. Prepare documents, charts and visual materials for use in trials. Provide technical support, e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos, and marking exhibits.Provide critical assistance in trial preparations.Perform other related duties as assigned.The Employee should have experience with the above listed responsibilities.
